11 Ways to Organise Your Time Whilst Unemployed
Being unemployed is tough, but for many job seekers, it's the first time in years that they've not had a structured schedule. There's an upside to that. You can optimise your schedule and fit job search and interviews into your days.
Effectively managing your time whilst unemployed will keep you finely tuned and ready to bounce when that job offer comes through. Here's a list of quick and dirty tips to keep you on your A-game.
1. Set up a Schedule
Maybe you don't have to wake up to an alarm clock, but it's good for you and your job search if you stick to the same daily schedule.
2. Stay Ready
Every morning after you wake up and have your tea or coffee, shower and get dressed as if you're going to an interview. You never know when you're going to get that call. Also, you're more likely to go networking if you're dressed for the part.
3. Give Yourself Some Flexibility
Sticking to a schedule is great, but you may have more flexibility now than you had when you were employed. Allow yourself to be spontaneous and open to new opportunities, whether work or fun.
4. Make Time for People
If you're an introvert, it can be tempting to hermit. Now's a great time to renew relationships with friends and family if you've been neglecting them for your career.
5. Be Good to Yourself
Whatever else is going on, stay on top of your self-care. Eat healthily, exercise, meditate and get plenty of sleep.
Once you process the emotional toll of being unemployed, you can begin to look at your days as a blank canvas. Fill that canvas up with all the things you've always wanted to do.
